Crossbody Salsa On1 is the most popular style danced in the UK and throughout the world. Salsa is a great way to keep fit, meet new people and enjoy Latin dance music!
Unlike many classes which focus only on partnerwork or shines, our studio class at Pulse is designed to cover what we feel are all the important elements needed to become a good salsa dancer - footwork, spins, lead/follow technique, and musicality - and so we have a section for each of these every week!
In the footwork section, we practice different "shines" which are solo moves that you can use when you separate from your partner at different times in a song. Each week we practice a few different shines with added body movements for flavour, and use the mirrors to help improve our posture and the look of our dancing.
In the spins section, we work on different areas of technique which will help improve your stability and rotation when you spin. We also set different challenges and minigames to test out your ability to stay balanced!
Our partnerwork teaching is very focused on improving lead and follow technique, and so we pick a different topic each week as a way of exploring how leaders and followers correctly interact with each other to make the moves work together. It's our strong belief that there should be a good connection between partners, and that when a move is done correctly it should feel very pleasant for both leader and follower.
Finally our musicality section covers what we feel is a very underrepresented area of salsa tuition, and this how to play and interact with different elements of the music whilst you dance. We focus on a different song each week, and give ideas on how to pick out specific notes and instruments, and how to dance with them. Take a look at the Video section for some examples!
Remember that if you join our class, we are interested in helping you improve in the long term! We send personal feedback messages after every class telling each of our students what we feel are their strengths and weaknesses, and what to work on for the next week.
